      History

Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home was founded as Church Funeral Home by George Church in 1940. It first opened on South Washington Street in Waynesburg. In 1947, the firm moved to its present location on North Maiden Street.

When George died in 1959, ownership passed to his wife. Glise Mariner was her partner and supervisor of the funeral home. In November 1960, Glise partnered with Samuel Milliken to buy the business from Mrs. Church. They changed the name to Glise E. Mariner and Samuel A. Milliken Funeral Home.

Glise and Samuel grew the business, eventually expanding the building to more than 5,000 square feet and adding a 36-car parking lot.

In 1987, Samuel partnered with Daryl Throckmorton, who'd been working for the firm for 12 years, to open Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home. Less than a decade later, on January 1, 1996, Daryl became the sole owner of the location. In order to serve more families, he also opened a branch of the business Mount Morris.

In 2023, both locations became part of the Dignity Memorial network of funeral, cremation and cemetery providers. We continue to provide the highest level of service with attention to detail, plus benefits you won't find anywhere else.
