Obituary for Lois Mae Leathers

Lois Mae Fox Leathers, 90, of Waynesburg passed away at 10:20 PM on Tuesday, November 21, 2017. She was born October 22, 1927 to Emil W. Fox and Ruth Dille Fox in Mt. Morris PA.
As a teenager she was in charge of turning out the gas street lamps and making sure all curtains were drawn during air raid drills in Mt. Morris during World War II.
She graduated from Mt. Morris High School in 1945. After attending Waynesburg College she moved to Miami to work for TWA. As a Naval Officer’s wife she lived in San Diego CA, Pensacola, FL, Virginia Beach, VA, and Washington DC.
After raising three boys as a single mother she graduated from Waynesburg College in 1976 and embarked on a 30 year career as the Greene County Supervisor for the Area Agency on Aging. She continued her education at California State College and West Virginia University.
She was a patron of the fine arts and instilled that appreciation to her following generations. As
a long time skilled needle crafter, she also passed those skills on. A long time Democrat, she became active as early as the 1936 FDR election. She continued her activism through her life.
Surviving are her sons: Ben K. III (RegIna) of San Diego CA, Michael F. (Candi) of Jefferson, PA., and Gregory C. (Lynn) of Waynesburg, PA. Grandchildren Erin Sano, Noah Leathers, Corey Leathers, Carrie Patterson, Minton Leathers and Cole Leathers. Great grandchildren: Gabriel,
Caden, August and Liam Sano, Ian and Emma Leathers, and Clark and Teo Patterson. A Nephew
John McDougal and nieces Cindy Shelton and Peggy Smyth. She also leaves the surviving members of the Seven Sisters.
Preceding her in death in addition to her parents is her sister, Shirley McDougal.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at the Personal Care at Evergreen in Waynesburg and the Amedisys Hospice for their excellent care of their loved one.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday December 9, 2017 1:00 PM at the Waynesburg VFW 445 E. Lincoln St. Waynesburg PA. In memoriam, the family asks that donations be made to the organization of your choice. Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home, Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton owner/director 197 N.
